IRENE MARION KING, age 97, of Worthington, died Tuesday, September 13, 2016, at the Parkview Manor Nursing Home in Ellsworth. She was born October 28, 1918, near Rushmore, to Hugo and Margarethe (Petersen) Lienau. Irene grew up south of Rushmore and attended a one room country school, Dist. #11. Her parents later moved east of Rushmore and she finished eighth grade in Rushmore.
Irene married John King on September 20, 1946, in Worthington. The couple farmed north of Rushmore for thirty three years.
She helped John on the farm, raising a lot of chickens. She enjoyed gardening, canning and she also had a lot of flowers. John and Irene enjoyed traveling. Throughout their marriage, they visited twenty eight states. Irene enjoyed her trips to the mountains. They also camped and fished. In 1981, they moved to Worthington and lived there for over thirty years. In 2012, the couple moved to Parkview Manor Nursing Home in Ellsworth. They lived there for only a short time before John died on March 6, 2012. Irene lived all of her life in Nobles County.
Irene is survived by her three nephews, Vance Greig, Monte Lienau and Gary Meinders; niece, Sharon Benson; two great nephews, Lance and Steve Greig; cousin, Marie Dieken; special friend, Viola Lursen; and other friends & relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John; sister, Gladys Greig; and a brother, Clarence Lienau.
Funeral will be 11 am Friday at the Dingmann Funeral Home in Worthington. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Friday. Burial will be in the Sunset Rest Cemetery in Rushmore.
