JOY R. SPRECHER, age 95, of Luverne, died Sunday, March 25, 2018, at the Tuff Memorial Home in Hills. She was born July 18, 1922, in Larchwood, IA, to Leslie and Ada (Freeman) Rockhill. She graduated from Larchwood High School in 1940. She then attended nursing school.
Joy married Lindsey W. Parks on August 16, 1943, on her family’s farm near Larchwood, IA. The couple farmed near Leonard, MN before moving to Wadena. Joy worked as a Sterile Supply Technician at the Tri-County Hospital in Wadena. Lindsey died on February 17, 1989.
Joy married Rev. Lloyd E. Sprecher on September 16, 1989, at the Southbrook Baptist Church in Wadena. After their marriage, the couple lived in Wadena. Rev. Lloyd died on June 8, 1990. Shortly after his death, Joy moved to Luverne.
She was a member of the First Baptist church in Luverne. She enjoyed music, playing the organ for church services, gardening and growing flowers.
Joy is survived by her sister, Marilyn Van Ash, Larchwood, IA; step son, Alden (Jeanne) Sprecher, Mapleton, ND; five step grandchildren; numerous step great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Dorothy Rockhill, Rock Rapids, IA; and nieces & nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands; a daughter, Roberta Parks; brother, Lawrence Rockhill; and a sister, Lyla Severson.
Funeral will be 11:00 am Wednesday at the First Baptist Church, in Luverne, officiated by Pastor Walt Moser. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday. Burial will be 10 am Thursday in the Wadena Cemetery in Wadena, MN.
