LENA RUST, age 85, of Magnolia, died Tuesday, July 18, 2017, at the Sanford Luverne Medical Center. She was born January 14, 1932, on the family farm east of Magnolia in Westside Township, to Rienko and Reka (Hartog) Koens. Lena was raised on the farm. She attended District #64 country school and later attended Adrian Public School.

Lena married Marvin Rust on May 19, 1954 in Adrian. The couple lived in Adrian for two years before they moved back to Lena’s family farm where they raised their two children. Quite simply her greatest accomplishment in life was being a mother & having a very special relationship with each of her children & grandchildren.

She was a lifelong member of the Adrian United Methodist Church; the United Methodist Women; and the Adrian Methodist Fellowship Club for many years. Lena enjoyed cooking, baking, canning, ceramics, bowling, reading, crossword puzzles, embroidery, gardening, Dutch Rusks with tea and making entries in her daily journal all of her life. She and Marvin enjoyed several Gold Wing motorcycle trips together.

Lena is survived by her husband of sixty three years, Marvin Rust, Magnolia; daughter, Diane (Paul) Boyenga, Ellsworth; son, Mike (Kandy) Rust, Magnolia; four grandchildren, Brian Boyenga (Travis Hahler) Chicago, IL; Lindsay (Ryan) Lonneman, Adrian; Erika (Jesse) Brake, Wilmont; and Lexi Rust ( special friend, Tony Lynn) Magnolia; and four great grandchildren, Gracelyn & Eastyn Lonneman; and Kaleb & McKinley Brake.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, George R. Koens.

   Visitation will be from 5-8 pm Thursday at the Dingmann Funeral Home in Adrian; and also one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. Funeral will be 10:30 am Friday at the United Methodist Church, in Adrian, officiated by Pastor Kristi Franken. Burial will be in the Adrian Cemetery.
