Muriel Kay Tholen

   MURIEL KAY THOLEN, age 73, of Rushmore, went to be with her LORD on Tuesday, September 20.

      Born in Worthington on November 17, 1942, to Albert and Vernis (Johnson) DeJager.  Muriel Kay lived around Rushmore most of her life.  She attended District 20 Country School through grade 6, then attended Worthington schools and graduated from Worthington High School in 1960.  Muriel Kay attended DeLyle’s Hairdressing School in Fairmont and began her career as a beautician at Lois Taylor’s Beauty Salon in Luverne. 

   Muriel Kay DeJager and Edward Marvin Tholen were united in marriage on Easter Sunday, April 22nd, 1962 at First Presbyterian Church in Rushmore.  After moving to a farm near Worthington, Edward and Muriel Kay adopted two baby girls, Apryl in 1967, and Amy in 1970.  In 1970, the family moved to Edward’s home place near Rushmore.

   Muriel Kay enjoyed teaching Sunday School, gardening, and in later years quilting.  After retiring, Edward and Muriel Kay traveled around the country and spent the colder months down south where they enjoyed riding motorcycle and meeting new friends.

   For Muriel Kay, there were no strangers, just people to get to know.  She was always willing to listen and offer hope and encouragement.

   Greatly blessed for having shared her life are her husband, Edward Tholen, Rushmore; two daughters, Apryl (Lloyce) Grebner, Sioux Falls, SD; and Amy (Eric) Tholen, Clearwater, FL; grandchildren, Megan (Darren) Walker, Sioux Falls, SD; and Nathaniel Kramer, Sioux Falls SD; five great-grandchildren; three sisters, Karen (Greg) Frey, Moorhead, MN; Marceil (Winston) Edson, Cedar Rapids, IA; and Carol (Johnnie) Webb, Moore, OK; five nephews, Ron (Karen) Tholen, MaComb, MI; Jeff (Rebecca) Tholen, St. Cloud, MN; Kyle (Summer) Rider, Moore, OK; Aaron (Jennifer) Edson, Cedar Rapids, IA; and Ryan (Thuy) Rider, Las Vegas NV; and two nieces, Judy (Gary) Lowe, Solway, MN; and Heather (Kirk) Herman, Cedar Rapids, IA.  She was preceded in death by her parents; and an infant son, Mark Allen Tholen.

   All friends and family are welcome to a Celebration of Life Service on Saturday, September 24 at 2:00pm, at the Dingmann Funeral Home in Worthington.  There will not be visitation, but a time of fellowship will be held following the Service.  A private burial will take place preceding the Celebration Service at Sunset Rest Cemetery in Rushmore.

  Memorials received will be given to support Christian Education.
