Raymond E. Kuhl

RAYMOND E. KUHL, age 89, of Worthington, died Monday, February 20, 2017 at Crossroads Care Center in Worthington. Born May 17, 1927, in Worthington, to Charles and Katie (Brinkhaus) Kuhl, he grew up the family farm, attended school in Reading and served his country in the National Guard.

Ray married Vernice Kopplow on January 31, 1949 at Trinity Lutheran Parsonage in Brewster. They made their home on the family farm with their five sons near Reading. Ray also drove school bus for Kempema Brothers Bus Service in Worthington, loving the interaction he had with the kids, and charter bus for Wells in Jackson.

 Ray was an active member of St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church in Worthington, where he served as Trustee.  In addition, he served on the Dewald Township Board and the Reading School Board. Throughout the years, Ray enjoyed many activities, including, square dancing, sports and playing cards, especially pinochle & 500.  Above all, he loved attending his boys’ activities and those of his grandchildren.

   Ray is survived by his five sons, Wendell (Shirla) Kuhl, Reading; Marlin (JoAnn) Kuhl, Hinesville, GA; Steven (Kelly) Kuhl, East Troy, WI; Burdell (Jolene) Kuhl, Worthington; and LeRoy (Linda) Kuhl, Hutchinson; fourteen grandchildren, Kris (Melanie) Kuhl, Kari (Phil) Skaar, Angela (Chris) Gallob, Benjamin Kuhl, Joshua Wohlleben, Madalyn (Brett) Larsen, Amery (Samantha) Kuhl,  Kristi (Adam) Bauer, Mindy Kuhl, Kayli Kuhl, Brian (Jesca) Kuhl, Nikki (Josh) VandenBerg, Rodney (Amy) Kuhl, and Kevin Kuhl; eleven great grandchildren, Layne, Levi, Jensyn, Jacob, Brady, Amani, Akisa, Drew, Brynn, Henry and Mackenzie; a sister, Norma Rienstra, Worthington; brother-in-law, Carl Crader, Hot Springs Village, AR; and two sisters-in-law, Jane Kuhl, Brainard; and Donna Kuhl, Fon Du Luc, WI.

   He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Vernice on April 19, 2015; three sisters, Helen Hartman, Marlys Walsh and Wanda Crader; and two brothers, Don & Dale Kuhl.

      Visitation will be from 5-7 pm Friday at the Dingmann Funeral Home in Worthington; and also one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Funeral will be 10:30 am Saturday at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Worthington. Burial will be in the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Worthington.

   In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Manna Food Shelf or Love Inc. of Worthington
