Terry "Leg" Westerbur

December 3, 1951 ~ March 27, 2017 (age 65) 65 Years Old

   Terry “Leg” Lee Westerbur, age 65, of Adrian, died Monday, March 27, 2017, at his home. He was born December 3, 1951 in Clarkfield, MN to Theodore and Dorothy (Meyer)Westerbur. Terry spent most of his youth in Sioux Falls, SD. At the age of 17 he moved to Tiger Land, LA for training and at the age of 18 joined the US Army. He served two tours of duty in Vietnam from 1969 until 1971 when he was honorably discharged and awarded a purple heart for injuries sustained in the line of duty.

   After returning home Terry spent a short time in Colorado before returning to the Sioux Falls area. In 1977 he opened his first motorcycle shop, One Leg’s Chopper Shop, in Dell Rapids, SD. He continued to pursue his passion for motorcycle repair and fabrication until the age of 50 when he retired to spend time riding the motorcycles he loved so much.

   Terry had a special place in his heart for the elderly and spent several of his retirement years providing entertainment and comfort to the residents of nursing homes and hospice cottages. He would often spend over half the days in a month traveling MN, SD, and IA with his service dog Earl Jackson visiting residents, singing and playing guitar.

   He began dating Annie McLaughlin in June of 2012 and on November 1st, 2013 they were married in Burke, SD. Terry and Annie made their home in Adrian, MN and spent their time together enjoying the things they loved most, riding motorcycle and traveling the country.

   Terry was preceded in death by his grandparents and parents.

   Grateful to have shared his life are his wife Annie, Adrian, MN, daughter from a previous marriage Angie Jordan and grandchildren Brookelynn and Mitchell of Woodbury, MN, step-daughter Michelle (Jason) Weatherton, Beresford, SD, and step-grandaughter Jaelynne Weatherton (Morgan Harris) Grand Forks, ND. Brothers Donald “Skip” (Jan) Westerbur, St. Charles, MO and Marlin “Marty” (Dixie) Westerbur, Sioux Falls, SD. Sisters Carol (Larry) Gorder, Sioux Falls, SD and Kathy (Harlan) Pulse-Olson, Sioux Falls, SD. Nephews Ted (Teresa) Westerbur, College Station, TX, Kellyn Gorder, Lexington, KY, Justin (Jodee) Westerbur, Sioux Falls, SD, Eric (Hilary) Pulse, Sioux Falls, SD, Lee (Nicole) Pulse, Kimball, SD, and Scot (Vanessa) Pulse, Sioux Falls, SD. Nieces Cindy (Dennis) Reinhart, East Peoria, IL, Marcy (Jim) Witte, O’Fallon, MO, Kristine (Bob) Fischer, Buffalo, MN, Lona (Jason) Justesen, Detroit Lakes, MN and Tara (Mike) Anderson, Aurora, CO. 25 great nieces and nephews, 10 great great nieces and nephews, and many, many dear close friends. He was also blessed to have special connections with step grandson Michael Cottrell (Lindsey Pazour), step great grandson Tegan Cottrell and many other members of Annie’s extended family.

   A remembrance gathering at his home and a private committal service with family and close friends will take place at a later date.

   Dingmann Funeral Home & Cremation Services, in Adrian, is assisting the family with arrangements.
