MAXINE POWELL, 79, died in her home in Worthington, Minnesota on Tuesday, May 16, 2006 with her family and friends. Maxine Powell was born to Pearl May (Kimes) and Elmer Henry Powell on July 31, 1926 in Huron, South Dakota. She graduated from Huron High School and Saint Johns School of Nursing (1952) in Huron, South Dakota. She graduated from the School of Anesthesia in Yankton, South Dakota as a nurse anesthetist in 1966. She was leader and mentor in the nursing profession as a head nurse and Assistant Director of Nursing at Huron Regional Medical center and as a nurse anesthetist at Worthington Regional Hospital (1967-1989). Grateful for having shared her life is her daughter Sharon Algood of Worthington, her brother Kenneth E. Powell, her niece Diana (Powell) Messick of Sioux Falls, six great nieces Lisa (Kopka) Nelson of Austin, Minnesota and Sheri Kopka of Butternut, Wisconsin, Kathy (Danley) VanNess, Karen (Danley) Archer, Barbara (Danley) Davies, Jennifer (Danley) Allen, and one nephew, Michael Danley all of California and nine great great nieces and two great great nephews. Maxine was preceded in death by her father Elmer Henry Powell (1937), her mother Pearl May (Kimes) Powell (1968), her sisters Mildred Redmond (1923), Lucille Redmond (1972) and June (Redmond) Ferris (1995). Maxine has been an active member of the First United Methodist Church, the Ruth Circle, EJ Chapter of PEO, American Nurses’ Association, American Red Cross and the Minnesota Nurses Association. Maxine dedicated her life to caring for others and educating young medical professionals. She fulfilled the expectations of a good nurse through her leadership, trust, understanding, helpful attitude, out reaching sense of good humor and dedication to her profession. She volunteered at The Food Pantry, MACS, Christmas Basket and Hospice. Maxine’s passion was traveling and cooking for others. The family requests memorials in lieu of flowers to the First United Methodist Church, 408 11th Street in Worthington, Minnesota 56187. Blessed be her memory.
