ELAINA “LENA” EVASKU, age 95, of Worthington, died Monday, November 20, 2006, at her home. She was born July 22, 1911, in Romania, to Lazar and Anna Lukie. As a young girl, Lena moved to America. She grew up in St. Paul where she attended school.
Lena married George Evasku in 1929, in South St. Paul. After their marriage, the couple lived in South St. Paul where Lena worked as a seamstress. In 1972, they retired and moved to Cass Lake. After Georges death in 1987, Lena moved back to St. Paul. She became a resident of Worthington in 1998.
She was a former member of St. Mary’s Romanian Orthodox Church, in St. Paul. She was a current member of the New Hope Church, in Worthington. Before her death, Lena was baptized in Jesus’ name and received the Holy Ghosts at the age of 89.
Lena is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Rev. Gene & Anne Evasku, Worthington; three grandsons, John (Tammy) Evasku, Stacy; Jarius Evasku, Worthington; and Jorge Evasku, Worthington; two granddaughters, Jeanette (Jeff) Amundson, New Richmond, WI; and Cheryl Ann Evasku, Minneapolis; and three great grandchildren, Eric, Cole, Dalton & Ashley.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, George, in 1987; a son, John, in 1965; and a sister, Grace.
