JACK JOE COOPER, age 86, of rural Reading, died Saturday, May 29, 2010, at the Crossroads Care Center in Worthington. He was born June 8, 1923, in Sheldon, IA, to Stewert and Alice (Koster) Cooper. He attended school in Matlock, IA. Jack married Flossie “Flo” Walinga on November 18, 1946, in South Sioux City, NE. After their marriage, the couple farmed with Jack’s family in the Matlock, IA, area. In the first couple years of their marriage, they wintered in Long Beach, CA where Jack worked in construction. In 1949, they began farming in rural Windom before moving to the farm in rural Reading in 1964. He was an active member of the Bethel Evangelical Presbyterian Church, in Reading, where he had served as Deacon, Elder, and Usher. Jack was also a member of the Prairie Reapers; and on the board of the Reading Community Center. He enjoyed farming, his cattle and his Allis Chalmers tractors. Jack is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Donna Cooper & Kevin Thorud, Dassel; son and daughter-in-law, Wally & Wendy Cooper, rural Reading; five grandchildren, Stacey, Justin, Dan, Jessica & Amy; four great grandchildren, Alex, Marina, Carley & Somajie; special friend, Mildred Raley; brother, Clayton (Karen) Cooper, Arizona; and two sisters-in-law, Mary Lou Walinga, Windom; and Iola Walinga, Boyden, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Flo, on September 22, 2000; son, Wes, in 1985; an infant son, Daryl; an infant daughter, Connie Jo; and a brother, Lester Cooper. Visitation will be from 6-8 pm Monday at the Dingmann Funeral Home in Worthington; and one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday. Funeral will be 10 am Tuesday at the Bethel Evangelical Presbyterian Church, in Reading, officiated by Rev. Brian Foddness. Burial will be in the Summit Lake Cemetery in Reading.
