DARYL ROY DeGROOT, age 70, of Ellsworth, died Monday, April 25, 2011, at the Sanford Rock Rapids Hospital. He was born May 21, 1940, in Hazel Run, MN, to Otto and Mabel (Baal) DeGroot. As a young boy, Daryl moved with his family to Adrian. He attended school in Adrian and Ellsworth High School. He served his country in the Army National Guard, in Luverne, from 1961 to 1967. Daryl married Bonnie Arends on October 5, 1963, at the Zion Presbyterian Church in Ellsworth. The couple later divorced but remained friends. Daryl was employed with Great Western Roofing in Sioux Falls, SD, the Adrian Tile Co., Hanson Silo in Luverne, and at Sudenga Industries in George, IA. He was a member of the Ellsworth American Legion Post. He enjoyed going to work every day, fishing, camping, boating, and liked to garden. He also liked to go rummaging and visiting with his family & friends. Daryl is survived by his two sons, Leon (Khaikham) DeGroot, Worthington; Troy (Catherin) DeGroot, Davison, MI; his best friend, Bonnie and her dog, Ce Ce; granddaughter, Khendra; step granddaughter, Kimberly; brother, Richard (Joyce) DeGroot, Luverne; two sisters, Doris Schonneman, Sibley, IA; and Mary (Gordon) Johnson, Bloomer, WI; and many nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, David & Dwight DeGroot. |
