VIRGINIA MARIE “JINNY” SOUTAR, age 90, of Luverne, died Friday, May 25, 2012, at the Sanford Hospice Cottage in Luverne. She was born May 17, 1922, in Sioux Falls, SD, to John and Ellen (Peterson) Coffitt. She graduated from Fulda High School in 1940.
   Jinny married Stanley Soutar on January 29, 1942, at the Presbyterian Parsonage in Fulda. After their marriage, the couple farmed in the Nobles County area. In 1949, they moved to Luverne and bought and developed an acreage known as The Soutar Edition. During this time Jinny also worked at Creager Department Store.  In 1956 they built and operated the Hillcrest Motel.  They sold the motel in 1969 and moved to a farm north of Luverne where they raised and bred registered Quarter Horses at the Hillcrest Arena.
   She was a fifty year member of the First Presbyterian Church in Luverne where she had served as an Elder was Past President of the Presbyterian Women and was an honorary member of the PW. She was also a member of the Luverne Pink Ladies, Morning Glory Garden Club and The Tuesday Morning Club. Jinny was the 4-H Mother of the Year in 1984. She enjoyed bowling, fishing, gardening and the Christmas season. Jinny and Stanley were also very involved with the 4-H.
   Jinny is survived by her sister-in-law, Jean Soutar Hoffmeister and many nieces & nephews.
   She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Stanley, on September 7, 2000; two brothers, Roy & George “Casey.” Coffitt; two infant brothers; and four sisters, Edna Glomsteade, Minerva Bishop, Velma Coffitt & Charlotte Nims.
   A time of fellowship will be from 6-8 pm Thursday, June 7, 2012 at the Dingmann Funeral Home in Luverne; and one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. A memorial service will be 10:30 am Friday, June 8, 2012 at the First Presbyterian Church, in Luverne, officiated by Rev. Terry Morse. Burial of cremains will be at the Maplewood Cemetery in Luverne.
   In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the First Presbyterian Church in Luverne.
