John Schneiderman Obituary

JOHN HENRY SCHNEIDERMAN, age 81, passed away on April 1, 2024 at the Sanford Worthington Medical Center. He was born on April 20, 1942 to Kriene H. Schneiderman, Jr. and Johanna (Wagenaar) Schneiderman at the family farm in rural George, Lyon County, Iowa.  He was the last child born at the Schneiderman family farm.  John grew up speaking low German at home, learning English when he attended a one-room schoolhouse in Wheeler Township, Lyon County, Iowa.  He was instilled with a love of the English language and vocabulary as a child, winning the Lyon County Spelling Bee Championship four years in a row.  He carried that love of language through his adulthood, being an avid reader, Scrabble player, and completing the crossword puzzle in the paper daily.
John attended high school in George, Iowa, enlisting in the United States Navy in 1960.  He served in the Navy from 1960 through 1964.  At the time of his discharge he was an E5, 2nd Class Ship Fitter and last served on the U.S.S. Phillip.  During his time in the Navy, John served in various locations across the Pacific, including Pearl Harbor, Hong Kong, Japan, and was involved in the Gulf of Tonkin incident.
After returning to the United States, John was married to his sweetheart, Geraldine Sophia (Kruse) Schneiderman on September 17, 1965.  The two lived in Northwest Iowa and Southern Minnesota, eventually settling in Worthington, MN.  John’s career focused on various aspects of property and casualty insurance, and real estate.  During the 1980s he also owned a sporting goods store called John’s Outdoor Store in Worthington.  They had one daughter, Angie, born in Worthington in 1978.
John was a man of many talents and hobbies, including woodworking, hunting, fishing, marksmanship, and gardening.  He will be remembered for his fine woodworking craftsmanship which included cabinets, furniture, and Christmas toys for children; his accuracy in shooting trap, wild game, and gophers; and, his various gardening projects.
John is survived by his wife, Geraldine Schneiderman; his daughter and son-in-law, Angie Schneiderman and Ben Nesselhuf of Sioux City, Iowa; siblings Helen (Harold) Eben of George, Iowa, George (Doris) Schneidermann of Rock Rapids, Iowa, Thalia (Kenneth) Abel of Omaha, Nebraska, and Ruth (Charles) Buboltz of Glenn Mills, Pennsylvania; many nieces and nephews; and, sister-in-law, Sheila (Kruse) Atherton.
