Aleida "Mick" (Frey) Von Holtum

   ALEIDA “MICK” VON HOLTUM, age 93, of Luverne, formerly of Adrian, died Tuesday, July 9, 2019, at the Mary Jane Brown Samaritan Home in Luverne. She was born January 2, 1926, in Lyon County, IA, to Jerry and Hattie (Groen) Frey. She attended country school for eight years.

   Mick married Dick Von Holtum on May 24, 1947, at St. Adrian Catholic Church in Adrian. The couple lived in the southwest Minnesota area before settling in Adrian. Mick worked at Safeway Egg Processing in Adrian before she began working at Nickerson Farms. She then began working at Schutz Hardware in Adrian. In 1974, Mick earned her Commercial Driver’s License. She drove truck with her husband for Kunkel Trucking. In 1983, the couple purchased The Home Café in Adrian. They owned & operated the café until 1989. She moved to Luverne in 2003 after Dick’s death. Mick became a resident of the Mary Jane Brown Home in July of 2017.

   She was a member of St. Adrian Catholic Church in Adrian; the St. Catherine Quilters; and the Luverne Senior Citizens. She enjoyed gardening and canning. Mick loved sewing. She made hundreds of baby blankets and quilts that were given to family and friends and donated to several area organizations.  

   Mick is survived by her five children, Paul (Gloria) Von Holtum, Luverne; Vonnie (Tom) Nergaard, Luverne; Jody Von Holtum, Springfield, VA; Dean (Rita) Von Holtum, Adrian; and Lynn Von Holtum, Mosinee, WI; seven grandchildren, Scott (Angie) Chladek, Jeff Von Holtum, Mike (Kayla) Leicher, David (Carna) Von Holtum, Craig (Amanda) Von Holtum, Andrea (Freddie) Gardner and Kelli (Tony) Langevin; fourteen great-grandchildren, Faro, Sean, Dylan (Kara), Landon, Lauden, Bentley, Ryder, Hailey, Jenna, Alex, Brody, Miles, Kendra and Gracelyn; two brothers-in-law, William (Norma) Von Holtum and Tom (Dorothy) Von Holtum; and five sisters-in-law, Sr. Rita Von Holtum SSND, Theresa Larson, Mary Munns, Clarice Forette and Shirley Frey.

   She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dick on April 17, 2003; a brother, Harold “Bud” Frey; an infant brother; a sister-in-law, Sr. Ramona Von Holtum SSND; and three brothers-in-law, Paul Von Holtum, Bob Larson and Jerry Forette.

   Visitation will be Thursday from 4-7 pm, with Parish Prayers at 4 pm, at the Dingmann Funeral Home in Luverne. Visitation also from 9:30 to 10:15 am Friday morning at Dingmann Funeral Home in Adrian. Funeral Mass will be 10:30 am Friday at St. Adrian Catholic Church, in Adrian, officiated by Monsignor Richard Colletti. Burial will be in the St. Adrian Cemetery.
