ALMA WIERTZEMA, age 91, of Rushmore, died Friday, December 21, 2018, at the Adrian Country Living Cottages. She was born June 28, 1927, in Holman Township, IA to Henry and Jennie (Meyeraan) Dammer. She attended country school near Rushmore.
Alma married Clarence Wiertzema on July 28, 1945, at Emmanuel Presbyterian Church south of Rushmore. The couple lived in Rushmore all of their married lives. Alma worked at Burfiend’s Drug Store in Rushmore; and for Teddy & Gene Fujan for over thirty years.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Rushmore. She enjoyed camping, fishing, gardening, trips to the Black Hills and wintering in Pharr, TX with her husband.
Alma is survived by her daughter, Marjorie (Corky) Reese, Rushmore; son, Jerry (Sandee) Wiertzema, Woodbury; three grandchildren, Todd (Janelle) Boots, Chad (Jessica) Wiertzema and Holly (Steve) Herrig; five great-grandchildren, Allison (friend, Brian Hoing) Boots, Payton and Camryn Wiertzema; and Reese and Bradyen Herrig; a Godson, Scott Wiertzema; three step grandchildren, Angela (Jamie) Decker, Amanda (Richard) Fongemie and Adam (Crystal) Reese; nine step great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Johnny Dammer, Worthington; and Harm Dammer, Worthington.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Clarence on June 9, 2006; brother, Sievert Dammer; and two sisters, Mattie Bents; and Tena Gingerich; son-in-law, Stanley Buss; and a step grandson, Anthony “Tony” Reese.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 4-7 pm at the Dingmann Funeral Home in Adrian; and also one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday. Funeral will be Thursday at 10:30 am at the First Presbyterian Church, in Rushmore, officiated by Pastor Paul Snyder. Burial will be in the Sunset Rest Cemetery in Rushmore.
