BETTY JEAN CHAPA, age 85, of Ellsworth, died Saturday, October 13, 2018, at the Parkview Manor Nursing Home in Ellsworth. She was born on January 16, 1933, in Worthington, to Cecil and Frances (Bulick) Fritz. She graduated from Worthington High School.
Betty married Myrl J. Chapa on September 18, 1955 in Reading, Minnesota and began their family in Fulda. Betty took great pride in raising four sons and treasured spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Betty worked as a secretary at Nobles County Coop Oil in Worthington. After they moved to Ellsworth in 1973, she worked as a secretary at Ellsworth Public School until she retired. After retirement, Betty was a RSVP volunteer of Parkview Manor Nursing Home, Pioneer Village in Worthington and she was very active in the community.
She was a member of Zion Presbyterian Church, in Ellsworth, for forty five years. Betty loved and taught crochet and enjoyed many hours working in her gardens. Betty traveled with her siblings, Bud & Sharon and Beverly to many places and countries. She enjoyed camping with family and friends.
Betty is survived by her four sons, Kimberly Joe (Dorene) Chapa, Little Rock, IA; Timothy (Carol) Chapa, Ellsworth; Brian (Kathy) Chapa, Ellsworth; and Gregg (Shawna) Chapa, Marshall; nine grandchildren, Curtis (Emily) Chapa, Tonya (Steve) Zitzloff, Travis (Amy) Chapa, Tyler (Darian) Chapa, Emily (Derek) Vanden Hoek, Justin (Jacob) Chapa, Caitlyn Chapa, Lizzie Chapa and Kallie Chapa; six great-grandchildren, Jaycee, Addilyn, Kamdyn, Harper, Autumn and Kendall; sister, Beverly Harkrider, Fulda; and a brother, Cecil “Bud” (Sharon) Fritz II, Reading.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Myrl Chapa on January 29, 1985; an infant grandson; two brothers, Robert and Lauren Fritz; a sister, Laurel Fritz; and a brother-in-law, Matt Harkrider.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 5-8 pm, at Zion Presbyterian Church in Ellsworth. Visitation also one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday. Funeral will be 10:30 am Thursday at Zion Presbyterian Church officiated by Pastor Paul Snyder. Burial will be in the Grand Prairie Cemetery in Ellsworth.
