DALE ROGER ACKERMAN, age 83, of Worthington, died Tuesday, October 10, 2017, at the Royal C. Johnson Veterans Memorial Hospital, Sioux Falls, SD. He was born February 16, 1934, in Ashton, IA; to Tom and Martha (Vaupel) Ackerman. Dale grew up in Ashton and graduated from Ashton High School in 1952. He served his country in the United States Navy.

   Dale married Wilma Jean Kreun on January 15, 1961 in Worthington. After their marriage they lived in Worthington. He worked at Campbell’s, Armor's, which later became Swift; and later Dale was a mechanic at The Achievement Center in Worthington. He had a special place in his heart for people with special needs. Dale also drove school bus before retiring.

   He was a member of Solid Rock Church in Worthington; and served as a deacon and elder. Dale enjoyed hunting ducks and geese, fishing and woodworking. In his later years, he loved playing with his grand dog, Max.

   Dale is survived by his wife Jean Ackerman, Worthington; two sons, Lowell (Susan) Ackerman, Oakdale, MN; Leo Ackerman, Lake Elmo, MN; one daughter, Denise (Leo) McFarland, Lake Elmo, MN; three grandchildren, Alicia (John) McGuire, Sophia McFarland, and Rachel McFarland, brother Cecil Ackerman, Sibley, IA; a sister Cleo (Jake) Ahrends, LeMars, IA; and a foster daughter, Marsha Drake, Milwaukee, WI.

  He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Kenneth and Glenn Ackerman; and three sisters-in-law, Shirley, Margaret & Arlene Ackerman.

   Funeral will be 2 pm Saturday at the Dingmann Funeral Home, in Worthington, officiated by Pastor Scott Peterson. Burial will be in the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Worthington.
