DICK KRACHT, age 94, of Luverne, died Monday, September 30, 2019, at the Tuff Memorial Home in Hills. He was born September 15, 1925, in Rock Rapids, IA, to Ben and Jennie (Boeve) Kracht.
Dick married Alice Veldkamp on December 21, 1949, in Rock Rapids, IA. After their marriage, the couple farmed with Dick’s parents southwest of Rock Rapids, IA. In 1951, they moved to the farm near Steen. They began farming near Garretson, SD, in 1960 and farmed there for twenty-five years before retiring in 1985. In 1989, they moved to the acreage south of Luverne. Dick became a resident of the Tuff Memorial Home in October of 2017.
He enjoyed farming, playing his harmonicas and singing hymns. He actually learned to play harmonica while herding cattle in the pasture. He loved playing with his grandchildren, he especially enjoyed play baseball with them in the summer months. He was a loved and respected Dad, Grandpa and Great-grandpa. He left us a great example of godliness and contentment in every situation of life.
Dick is survived by his four children, Harold (Janalee) Kracht, Sioux Falls, SD; Helen (Gene) Noll, Beaver Creek; Everett (Grace) Kracht, rural Garretson, SD; and Mary Ann (Steve) Carlson, Garretson, SD; ten grandchildren, Jill (Jordan) Stipp, Jamie (Eric) Schuller, Justin (Claudia) Kracht, Tory (Jill) Noll, Renee (Joe) Swiatek, Adara (Luke) Wixo, Tyler Kracht, Shane (Beth) Carlson, Jordan Carlson & Dylan (fiancée, Michelle) Carlson; sixteen great-grandchildren, Madelyn, Parker, Nolan, Audrey, Trenten, Emmett, Brooklyn, Brycen, Jaxson, Hailey, Madden, Hayden, Bo, Lola, Poppy and Harper; a brother, Pete (Bernice) Kracht, Rock Rapids, IA; and two sisters, Alberta Flatberg, Sioux Falls, SD; and Henrietta (Lowell) Wirtjes, Brandon, SD.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Alice on January 31, 2012; a brother, Bert (Priscilla) Kracht; and a sister, Jeanette (Carmi) Braasch.
Visitation will be from 5-8 pm Friday at the Dingmann Funeral Home in Luverne; and also one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Saturday. Funeral will be 11 am Saturday at the Dingmann Funeral Home in Luverne. Burial will immediately follow the ceremony at the Maplewood Cemetery in Luverne. The family welcomes everyone to either stay for lunch after the ceremony or return for lunch after the burial.
