DONALD “ANDY” SLONE, age 84, of Reading, died Friday, February 15, 2019, at Ava’s Hospice House , in Sioux Falls, SD. He was born October 15, 1934, in Norwalk, IA, to Lloyd and Gladys (Killen) Slone. Donald graduated from Worthington High School in 1952. He worked for Hudson Bros. Construction where he worked pouring concrete and brick and block laying.
Donald married Audrey Groth on June 10, 1953. After their marriage they moved to acreage near Reading where they lived their entire married lives. He worked for Hudson Bros. until the early 1970’s when he started his own construction company, Slone Construction. Donald did all kinds of construction and demolition in the area using heavy equipment. He loved to work and sometimes he could be been singing to himself on the job. He enjoyed watching the Minnesota Vikings, when they were winning. He attended a Super Bowl that the Vikings played in; unfortunately he was disappointed at the end of the game.
Donald is Survived by his four children, Doug (Lori) Slone, Clinton, NY; Steven Slone, Norman, OK; Sandra Slone, Worthington; Kevin Slone, Reading; Four grandchildren, and eleven great children.
He was preceded in death by his parent; wife Audrey, daughter-in-law Sharon, a brother Keith Slone, and a sister, Patricia Slone.
A time of fellowship will be February 24th from 1:00 to 4:00 PM and sharing of memories at 2:30 PM, at the Dingmann Funeral Home in Worthington. A private Family Committal service will be held at a later date.
