GENE ARTHUR EDSTROM, age 71, of Luverne, died Wednesday, April 2, 2014, at the Sanford Luverne Medical Center. He was born May 3, 1942, in Randolph, to Kenneth and Dorothy (Westerson) Edstrom. He attended school in Randolph. Gene entered the United States Army on April 1, 1964. He served his country during the Vietnam War overseas in Germany. Gene was honorably discharged from the army on March 15, 1967. He served in the United States Reserves until March 31, 1970.
   Gene married Cheryl Hollander on April 16, 1983, in Luverne. The couple lived in Luverne. Gene drove truck for DSG in Sioux Falls, SD. He retired in January of 2007 and began working for Gath Farms.
   He was a member of the American Reformed Church in Luverne. Gene enjoyed fishing, camping and soaking up the sun on his deck. He was an avid Luverne Hockey fan. He coached hockey for several years.
   Gene is survived by his wife, Cheryl Edstrom, Luverne; four children, Amy (Travis Dammann) Hollander, Luverne; Becky (Nate) Crane, Hartford, SD; Chris (Casey) Edstrom, Castroville, TX; and Eric (Monica) Edstrom, Luverne; eleven grandchildren, Marshal & Tucker Dammann, Zach & Riley Hollander, Damen Crane, Hannah Vaudrin, Skyler & Sophia Edstrom, and Macie, Mallorie & Eddie Edstrom; and three brothers, John (Ruth) Edstrom, Burke, VA; Merle (Ruthie) Edstrom, Dennison; and Luverne (LaVonne) Edstrom, Northfield.
   He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Ann Marie Getting; mother-in-law, Wilma Franken; and a nephew, Ryan Edstrom.
   Visitation will be from 5-8pm Sunday at the Dingmann Funeral Home in Luverne; and also one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. Funeral will be 2pm Monday at the American Reformed Church, in Luverne, officiated by Rev. Mike Altena. Burial will be in the Luverne Garden of Memories Cemetery.
