HARRIET THOMAS, age 99, of Luverne, died Sunday, August 4, 2019, at the Mary Jane Brown Good Samaritan Home in Luverne. She was born May 21, 1920, in Vesta, MN, to Karl and Anna (Dietz) Gall. Harriet graduated from Echo High School as class valedictorian in 1938. She later attended beauty school in Minneapolis.
Harriet married Jimmy Thomas on November 29, 1941, in Wabasso. The couple lived in Sioux Falls, SD for four years before moving to Luverne. Harriet was a mother and a homemaker.
She was a member of St. Catherine Catholic Church in Luverne, where she taught catechism; and the WCCW where she helped serve funeral lunches for many years. She enjoyed traveling, ceramics, sewing, watching the Minnesota Twins and fishing on Otter Tail Lake.
Harriet is survived by her six children, Kathleen Meisenheimer, Houston, TX; Tom (Pat) Thomas, Tyler; Rochelle Thomas, Portland, OR; John (Kate) Thomas, Tacoma, WA; Dan Thomas, Sioux Falls, SD; and Merideth Thomas, Luverne; thirteen grandchildren; and thirteen great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jimmy Thomas on January 11, 2000; son-in-law, Wally Meisenheimer; daughter-in-law, Colleen Thomas; and two sisters.
A time of fellowship will be from 9 to 10:20 am Friday at St. Catherine Catholic Church in Luverne. Funeral Mass will be Friday at 10:30 am at St. Catherine Church officiated by Monsignor Gerald Kosse. Burial will be in the St. Catherine Cemetery in Luverne.
