JEAN DEUTSCH, age 91, of Ellsworth, died Wednesday, January 1, 2020, at the Parkview Manor Nursing Home in Ellsworth. She was born May 26, 1928, in Waterbury Township, in Redwood County, MN to John and Caroline (Aufterheide) Jenniges. She graduated from Lamberton High School in 1946. Jean was the last surviving sibling of her ten brothers and sisters.
Jean married William Deutsch on June 16, 1953, at St. Mathias Catholic Church in Wanda, MN. After their marriage, they moved to Ellsworth where they raised their children and lived all of their married lives.
She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Ellsworth, where she was active in the CCW, taught catechism, was a reader at church services, and received the Bishops Medal in 2011 for her faithful service to the Church. She also served on the Nobles Rock County Health Board, Charter Member of Parkview Manor Board, Ellsworth Optimist Club, Election Judge for the City of Ellsworth, American Legion Auxiliary and was a ticket taker at the Ellsworth High School for many years. She enjoyed gardening, canning, cooking, playing cards, crocheting and knitting. She also enjoyed her time spent with her family, especially the children.
Jean is survived by her husband of sixty six years, Bill Deutsch, Ellsworth; ten children, Damian (Cindy) Deutsch, Moline, IL; Joseph (Brenda) Deutsch, Ellsworth; Lori (Joel) Duscher, Norton, KS; Ellen (Jeff) Grode, Sioux Falls, SD; Teresa (Lloyd) Johnson, Pierre, SD; Steven (Adria) Deutsch, Lakeville, MN; Karen (Mike) Werner, Battle Lake, MN; David Deutsch, Carneys Point, NJ; Richard Deutsch, Sioux Falls, SD; and Barbara (Chad) Wessels, George, IA; twenty four grandchildren; and sixteen great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters; seven brothers; and two great-grandchildren, William and Levi.
Visitation will be Sunday from 3:30 to 7pm, family present from 5 to 7pm, with a Rosary service at 3:30 and prayer service at 7pm at St. Catherine Catholic Church in Luverne. Visitation also from 9:30 to 10:30 am Monday at St. Catherine Catholic Church in Luverne. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 am Monday at St. Catherine Catholic Church, officiated by Monsignor Gerald Kosse. Burial will be at St. Mary Catholic Cemetery in Ellsworth. Dingmann Funeral Home in Adrian is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers donations to be appointed at a later date.
