Vivian Roxey (Zelmer) Hanssen

September 28, 1925 ~ May 8, 2019 (age 93)

VIVIAN ROXEY ZELMER HANSSEN, daughter of Edward and Bertha (Wall) Zelmer was born September 28, 1925 in rural Clayton, SD. She graduated from Bridgewater High School in 1943 and attended General Beadle College at Madison, SD for two years.

Vivian was a rural school teacher for several years. She was united in marriage to Elmer Hanssen June 14, 1945. They lived in Amarillo, TX while her husband was in the service. After his discharge, they returned to the Bridgewater area where they farmed until 1992 and retired in Sioux Falls, SD.

She enjoyed entertaining friends in her home. Vivian always enjoyed serving others. She was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone that needed assistance. Her main interest was gardening, sewing, knitting and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who loved her very much. She was an inspiration to all who knew her.

Vivian is survived by her two children, Connie Bergman, Luverne; and Ronald (Loree) Hanssen, Hebron, KY; four grandchildren, Angela (Tony) Olson, Cassandra (Derek) Marshall, Andrew (Angelique) Hanssen and Aaron (Taylor) Hanssen; five great-grandchildren, Elizabeth, Sydney, Collin, Kyrsten and Dylan; and one brother, Daniel (Connie) Zelmer, Salem, SD.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Elmer in 2004; daughter, Jeannie in 1948; three sisters, Erna, Donna Lee, and Minerva; brother, Harold; and a son-in-law, Dave Bergman.

   Visitation will be from 1-2 pm Saturday at the Dingmann Funeral Home in Luverne.  Funeral will be 2 pm Saturday at the Dingmann Funeral Home in Luverne.   Burial will be in the Bridgewater Cemetery in Bridgewater, SD at a later date.
