Obituary

ALAN "AD" LEE DELEEUW, age 71, of Ellsworth, died Tuesday, October 25, 2022, at the Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls, SD. He was born June 17, 1951, in Hull, IA, to Edgar and Janet (Eilders) DeLeeuw. He graduated from Ellsworth High School in 1969. Alan married Burnetta Herding in June of 1976, in Little Rock, IA. The couple lived in rural Ellsworth. To this union four children were born, Shane, Melissa, Heather and Laci. The couple later divorced. Alan married Kathy Harkema on December 15, 2009, at Zion Presbyterian Church in Ellsworth. The couple lived in Ellsworth. Alan worked at the fertilizer plant, in Ellsworth, for over forty three years before retiring in 2016. He was a member of Zion Presbyterian Church in Ellsworth; and was President of the Grand Prairie Cemetery Board. He enjoyed the Minnesota Vikings, going out to eat and traveling to casinos. Alan is survived by his wife, Kathy DeLeeuw, Ellsworth; four children, Shane (Melinda) DeLeeuw, George, IA; Melissa (Jim) Van Holland, Rock Rapids, IA; Heather (Micah) Freese, Rock Rapids, IA; and Laci (Jaime) Meinerts, Rock Rapids, IA; nine grandchildren, Collin, Kyle and Carly DeLeeuw; Cameryn and Brooklyn Van Holland; Carter and Tenley Freese; and Landon and Graham Meinerts; four step-children, Kari (Jason) Christenson, Luverne; Casey (Beth) Harkema, Dell Rapids, SD; Mike (Jen) Harkema, Dell Rapids, SD; and Kelly (special friend, Jason) Harkema, Ellsworth; seven step-grandchildren, Ethan and Lindsey Roemeling; Lily and Cole Harkema; and Avah, Caleb and Mason Harkema; brother, Gerald (Mary Jane) DeLeeuw, Kandiyohi; and two sisters, Diane (Wayne) Schweitzer, Ellsworth; and Sandy (Glenn) Klingenberg, Edgerton. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be from 4-7 pm Thursday at the Zion Presbyterian Church in Ellsworth; and also one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. Funeral will be 10:30 am Friday at the Zion Presbyterian Church, in Ellsworth, officiated by Pastor Randy Knuth. Burial will be in the Grand Prairie Cemetery in Ellsworth.
