Obituary

ALDINE MARLETTE GANGESTAD MADISON, age 95, of Yankton, SD, formerly of Luverne, died Wednesday, February 23, 2011, at the Avera Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton, SD. Aldine was born February 6, 1916, to Hans and Anne (Olson) Gangestad, at Ottosen, near Humboldt, Iowa. At age 12 she moved to the Adrian, MN, area. Following graduation from high school at Worthington, MN, Aldine studied at Mankato, MN, to be a teacher. She taught at rural schools in Nobles and Rock Counties, MN, for many years. Aldine married Keith Madison on November 22, 1945, in her parent?s home at Adrian. They farmed and raised turkeys in Nobles County, and later moved to Rock County. They started the Blue Mound Catering Service out of their farm home in 1955, and built the Blue Mound Inn restaurant north of Luverne in 1968. Upon retirement, in 1975, they spent many winters in Florida. Mr. Madison died in June of 1998. Aldine moved to Avera Majestic Bluffs at Yankton, SD in 2004, where her granddaughter and husband, Doralynne and Jerry Jarvis, provided special care. Aldine was a long-time, very active, member of Grace Lutheran Church at Luverne and King of Kings Lutheran Church at Port Richey, FL. She enjoyed numerous craft activities including needlework, seashell art, and woodcarving. Her greatest joys were spending time with family and playing games, including her favorite, Scrabble. Aldine was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was extremely proud of her family. Survivors include two daughters, Marlyce (Dave) Micklos of Pierre, SD and Shirley (John) Cook of South Daytona, FL; one son Ken (Renae) Madison of Watertown, SD; six grandchildren; Justin (Shanna) Howe, Tom (Christina) Madison, Anne (Rob) Flemming, Doralynne (Jerry) Jarvis, Deborah (Chris) Nelson & Dexter (Rachel) Micklos; four great-grandchildren, Nolan & Everett Howe, Jackson Flemming & Hayden Nelson; one more great grandbaby to arrive in March; one sister, Ruth Bentson, of Morris, MN; and a sister-in-law, Lucille Gangestad of Luverne. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Keith; two infant children; and two brothers, Harold & Emmet Gangestad. Blessed Be Her Memory.
