ALICE MAE HANSON, age 77, of rural Adrian, died Friday, August 29, 2014 at her home. She was born October 23, 1936, in St. Helena, Nebraska, to Robert and Elizabeth (Klug) Shove. She graduated from Wessington Springs High School and Junior College and from Sioux Falls College. Alice served the communities of Luverne, Ellsworth and Adrian as an elementary school teacher for more than forty years before retiring in 2000. She married Henry Hanson on July 3, 1962 and the family farm southeast of Adrian was their home for all her married life. There she enjoyed gardening, raising horses and was always reading. She loved time spent with friends and especially with her children and grandchildren, for whom she was always ready with a game or a good book. Alice was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, in Luverne. She also served as caretaker of the Little Rock Lutheran Cemetery where she will be buried.
She is survived by her husband, Henry, Adrian; daughter, Julia (Mark) Lewis, Clinton, CT; son Jim Hanson, St Paul, MN; two grandchildren, Adam Lewis, Clinton, CT; Elaine Hanson, Sioux Falls, SD; and many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents and sister, Hildegard Smith.
Funeral service will be held at 10:30 am Wednesday at Grace Lutheran Church, in Luverne, officiated by Rev. Ron Nichols. Visitation will be from 4-7pm Tuesday at the Dingmann Funeral Home in Adrian. Visitation will also be available one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday. Burial will be in the Little Rock Lutheran Cemetery in rural Adrian.
