ALICE MAE KRACHT, age 89, of Luverne, died Tuesday, January 31, 2012, at the Mary Jane Brown Home in Luverne. She was born July 5, 1922, in Rock Valley, IA, to Al and Dena (Ruisch) Veldkamp. She attended country school near Rock Valley, IA.
Alice married Dick Kracht on December 21, 1949, in Rock Rapids, IA. After their marriage, the couple farmed with Dick's parents southwest of Rock Rapids, IA. In 1951, they moved to the farm near Steen. They began farming near Garretson, SD, in 1960 and farmed there for twenty-five years before retiring in 1985. In 1989, they moved to the acreage south of Luverne. Alice became a resident of the Mary Jane Brown Home, in Luverne, in February of 2007.
She enjoyed flowers, vegetable gardening, refinishing furniture for family & friends and visiting over coffee & a good meal.
Alice is survived by her husband, Dick Kracht, Luverne; four children, Harold (Janalee) Kracht, Stillwater; Helen (Gene) Noll, Beaver Creek; Everett (Grace) Kracht, rural Garretson, SD; and Mary Ann (Steve) Carlson, Garretson, SD; ten grandchildren, Jill (Jordan) Stipp, Jamie Kracht, Justin Kracht, Tory (Jill) Noll, Renee (Joe) Swiatek, Adara (Luke) Wixo, Tyler Kracht, Shane Carlson, Jordan Carlson & Dylan Carlson; a great granddaughter, Brooklyn Noll; two brothers, Elmer (Greta) Veldkamp, rural Jasper; and Ben Veldkamp, Luverne; two sisters, Florence Birkhofer, Luverne; and Arvilla Veldkamp, Luverne; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Lorraine and Harley Rossow, rural Sherman, SD; and a host of nieces & nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Jim Veldkamp; and two sisters, Jeanette Beyer & Dorothy Rossow.
