Obituary

Alma Bernice Bolt (Rozeboom) entered this world on January 14, 1926. She was the first daughter born to John and Henrietta (DeGroot) Bolt. She grew up on the farm northeast of Leota and attended school at Leota Christian, graduating from eighth grade.
On Feb. 16, 1947, Alma became Mrs. Marvin Rozeboom, greatly enjoying her life as a housewife and mom. She and Marv farmed several places in the area before taking over the Bolt Family Farm in 1959. They stayed on this farm until 1989 when they moved to a nearby acreage, and then finally to their house in Leota in 1993.
Alma lived out the life of a Proverbs 31 woman as much as she could. Having lived through the lean years of the 30s as a child, she learned to take special care in stretching the dollar by sewing, patching jeans, tending the garden, canning, freezing, and baking. She also joined in on the many fundraisers at church and school, contributing in her quiet unassuming manner.
Alma participated in the Ladies' Golden Hour at Ebenezer CRC, having the esteemed honor of being the oldest member there for many years. She also belonged to one of the largest and longest-running High School Circles of Southwest Christian until her health caused her to stop helping. However, she continued to support those fundraisers with her attendance.
And attend she did! She and Marv were often seen not only at fundraisers, but at countless church and school events. One organization that was dear to her heart was the Relay for Life in Slayton, which she and Marv attended every year to honor the memory of their granddaughter Tonya.
Another hobby for Alma and Marv in their retirement years was their traveling. One of her favorites was their trip to Hawaii for their thirty-fifth anniversary. As they continued to age, their trips became shorter bus trips to wherever the tour agents would suggest.
Alma loved her children and grandchildren and extended that love to her forty-one great-grandchildren, attending their birthday parties whenever she and Marv could. Her children always knew she might not be feeling well if she stayed home from these.
On Dec. 23, Alma's weak heart finally won the battle after a hospice stay of two months at The Cottage in Luverne. She died peacefully surrounded by some of her children and her husband of nearly sixty-nine years. She would have been ninety on January 14. The family greatly appreciated the loving care she received from the many nurses and volunteers at The Cottage.
Alma is survived by her husband, Marv in Leota, and her children, Jim and Eileen Rozeboom, Chandler; Brenda and Bill Kooiker, Middleberg, IA; Verna and Alan Brands, Edgerton; and Cheryl and Jake Moss, Luverne; thirteen grandchildren and their twelve spouses; and forty-one great-grandchildren. Alma also enjoyed getting to know some step-grandchildren and their kids belonging to Allen and Verna.   Other survivors are her sister, Carolyn and Harry Van Dam; her brother, John and Arlo Bolt;
brother-in-law, Pete DeKam; sister-in-law Elaine and new husband Harley Peterson; sister-in-law, Harriet and John VanderHaar; and sister-in-law, Clara Rozeboom.
Those who greeted Alma in heaven were her granddaughter Tonya; her parents; her sister Evelyn; sister Esther DeKam; brothers, Roland and Harold Bolt; and other brothers-in-law; sisters-in-law; and relatives.
