ALVIN JOSEPH MEYER, age 74, of Ellsworth, died Sunday, June 8, 2008, at the Parkview Manor Nursing Home, in Ellsworth. He was born May 20, 1934, in Ellsworth, to Joseph and Annie (Engels) Meyer. Alvin was baptized and confirmed at Zion Presbyterian Church, in Ellsworth. He was educated through the Ellsworth Public Schools, graduating in 1954 at the age of twenty. His illness of rheumatic fever delayed his education for two years. A gift of needlework during his childhood illness, created many beautiful gifts. Alvin shared this talent by teaching many of his nieces. After graduation, he worked as a farmhand, and then went to work for Hanson Silo Company for several years. He will be remembered for his love of the outdoors. Alvin was an avid hunter & fisherman, passing these skills along to his nephews. He enjoyed life to the fullest. He was a member of the Zion Presbyterian Church, in Ellsworth. Alvin is survived by his two sisters, Ruby Roemeling, Adrian; and Emily (Roy) Sternberg, Estherville, IA; sister-in-law, Carrie Meyer, Sioux Falls, SD; many nieces & nephews; and a close friend, Miles Burkard, Ellsworth. He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph, in 1943; mother, Annie, in 1997; two brothers, Earl, in 1955; and Richard, in 2005; and a sister, Edna Russell, in 2007.
