ANDREW ?BERTEL? JENSEN, age 93, of Luverne, died Wednesday, April 11, 2007, at the Mary Jane Brown Home, in Luverne. He was born September 30, 1913, at Sunny Side Farm, in Kanaranzi Township rural Rock County, to Andrew and Zula (Bowen) Jensen. Bertel graduated from Magnolia High School in 1931. He later spent two years at the University of Minnesota School of Agriculture, in St. Paul. Bertel entered the United States Army on December 2, 1941 and served his country during WWII. After returning from the service on November 7, 1945, he began farming on the family farm. Bertel married Irene Mae Prahl on September 11, 1946, at the United Methodist Church in Luverne. After their marriage, the couple farmed in Kanaranzi Township. In 1952, they moved to Luverne where Bertel worked construction for Cyril Dieterman; and later, worked as a salesman for Hanson Silo & The Luverne Farm Store. In 1978 he retired and worked part time at the I-90 Rest Area. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, in Luverne; the Friendship Club; and the Luverne American Legion for over sixty years. He enjoyed flower & vegetable gardening & the Minnesota Twins. Bertel is survived by his wife, Irene Jensen, Luverne; two sons and daughters-in-law, Jeff & Deanna Jensen, Odessa, MN; and Steve & Charleen Jensen, West Bend, WI; four grandchildren, Jeannette Jensen, John (Jessica) Jensen, Stephen (Kim) Jensen and Stepheniann (Brad) Lambrecht; six great grandchildren, Jordan, Matthew, Joshua; two great grandchildren; a brother, Roger (Gerri) Jensen, Slayton; a sister-in-law, Jane Jensen, Richfield; and many nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters, Winnifred Wessels, Betty Olson, Alice Hurst & Lucinda Ecker; and a brother, Neil Jensen.
