ANNE MARIE VAN ROEKEL, age 89, of Worthington, died Thursday, June 29, 2006, at her daughter?s home in Sioux Falls. She was born on September 26, 1916 near Sibley, Iowa, to parents, Henry and Marie (Bosch) Luinenburg. At the age of eight her family moved to a farm near Brewster and Anne attended country school there. On February 20, 1940, she married Walter Mellema. The couple farmed near Brewster for eight years before moving to a farm near Lake Wilson where they resided until Walter?s death in 1974. Anne then moved to Worthington. On January 30, 1982, Anne married Bernie Van Roekel. They resided in Worthington and wintered in Alamo, Texas. Bernie preceded her in death on June 12, 2003 and Anne continued to reside in Worthington until she became ill and was cared for by her daughter and family until her death. Anne had been a member of the Christian Reformed Church in Chandler, the Dorcas Society, Christian School Willing Workers, and the Southwest High Circles. She was a member of the Christian Reformed Church in Worthington. Anne enjoyed baking, crocheting, embroidering and caring for her houseplants. She is lovingly remembered by her son, Harlon Mellema, Round Lake, MN; her daughter-in-law, Verla Mellema, Kent, WA; and her daughter, Kathy (Dennis) Kooiman, Sioux Falls, SD; five granddaughters, six great grandchildren, three sisters, Clara Hofstee, Mary Obermoller, Grace Dykema, and two brothers, John Luinenburg, and Marvin Luinenburg, all of Worthington; two stepsons, Bob (Pat) Van Roekel, Council Bluffs, IA; Doug (Donna) Van Roekel, Worthington, MN. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Harry, husbands, Walt Mellema and Bernie Van Roekel, and one son, Roger Mellema. Visitation will be Sunday from 6-8 pm at the Dingmann Funeral Home in Worthington. Visitation will also be one hour prior to the service. The service will be at 2:00 pm on Monday at the Christian Reformed Church in Worthington with the Rev. LeRoy Christoffels officiating. Burial will be at the Chandler Memorial Cemetery in Chandler, MN.
