ARLISS LORRAINE LUITJENS, age 80, of Worthington, died Wednesday, November 5, 2014 at Crossroads Care Center in Worthington. She was born July 9, 1934 on the family farm in Summit Lake Township, Nobles County, Minnesota to parents Henry and Helen (Heidebrink) Luitjens.
She completed eight years of country school at District #94. That summer Arliss was diagnosed with polio and was taken to the University of Minnesota Hospital and later transferred to Sheltering Arms in Minneapolis for over a year.
Arliss eventually was able to attend Worthington Junior College. Her first place of employment was in the law office of M.E. Hughes. She also worked in the office of Nobles County Co-op Oil Company in Worthington. She later worked in the office at Parkway Motel in Minneapolis for 19 years. After retiring she moved back to Worthington to be near family.
Arliss was one of Jehovah's Witnesses since 1972 and enjoyed talking with people about the Bible. Her favorite pastime was playing scrabble and putting puzzles together with family and friends.
She is survived by her four brothers, LeRoy (Sonja) Luitjens, Luverne; Henry (Ida) Luitjens, Worthington; Delbert Luitjens, Urbandale, IA; and Dennis (Colleen) Luitjens, Worthington; two sisters, Esther Scheepstra and Helen Markman, both of Worthington and also several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Cecil and an infant sister Darlene; two brothers-in-law, Clyde Markman and Clarence Scheepstra; two sisters-in-law, Dorothy and Martha Luitjens.
The Funeral Service will be Friday at 10:30 AM at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Worthington. A private burial will be at Summit Lake Cemetery in Reading.
The Dingmann Funeral Home of Worthington will be in charge of arrangements.
