ARNOLD "ARNIE" BEELNER, age 94, of Worthington, died Friday, July 13, 2012, at Maple Lawn Nursing Home, in Fulda. He was born July 30, 1917, in Remsen, IA, to Frank and Barbara (Kirsch) Beelner. He attended school at St. Mary's Catholic School in Remsen. He worked on the home farm until 1948.
Arnie was united in marriage to Margaret Bohlke on November 26, 1941. In November, they celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary. After their marriage the couple lived near Remsen until 1948. They moved to a farm on the north side of Round Lake until 1960, when they moved to Worthington. Arnie was a man of many skills and trades; he worked for Campbell Soup in Worthington from 1957 to 1980 when he retired. The couple lived in Worthington until 2010 when Arnie moved to Maple Lawn Nursing Home in Fulda.
He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and the Elks Club. He enjoyed card playing, watching baseball, riding horses and especially spending time with his family.
Arnie is survived by his wife Margaret, Fulda; four daughters, Judith (Dale) Barringer, Holstein, IA; Joyce Ricke, Remsen, IA; Barbara (Bill) Nevin, Shakopee; Mary Kretz, Worthington; eight grandchildren, three step grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren, one step great grandchild; two sisters, Helen (Boots) Heuer, Sun City, AZ; Lavonne Slife, Hawarden, IA; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, infant son, son-in-law, Tom Kretz, four sisters, three brothers and an infant brother.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 4-8 P.M. at the Dingmann Funeral Home in Worthington; and one hour prior to the service at the church.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 A.M. Wednesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Worthington with Father Russell Scepaniak officiating. Burial will be at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, in Remsen, IA.
