BERNADENE (MEINDERS) JOHNSON, age 88, of Rushmore, died Friday, May 11, 2007, at the Sanford Luverne Hospital. She was born October 25, 1918, to Hayoung H. and Christina (Trampel) Meinders, on a farm in Osceola County, rural Sibley, IA. She attended country school in District #52. Bernadene married Marlis R. Johnson on July 26, 1936. After their marriage, the couple farmed in the Rushmore area. In the early 1940?s, they moved to the farm south of Wilmont where Bernadene currently resided. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, in Rushmore, for over sixty years; the Women?s Association where she held offices as a deacon & Elder; church secretary for over twenty five years; and a member of the Minnesota Extension Club for over thirty years. She enjoyed sewing, gardening & growing house plants. Bernadene is survived by her four children and their spouses, Janice & Hans Remmers, Dundee; Gordon & Bonnie Johnson, West Bend, WI; Randy & Carol Johnson, rural Rushmore; and Marcia & Joe Mauch, rural Adrian; thirteen grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; two sisters, Ann Onken, Albert Lea; and Shirley (Al) Kruse, Worthington; and a son-in-law, Lyman Winge, Marshall. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Marlis, in 1966; son, Allan, in January of 1999; daughter, Carmen Winge, in September of 2001; grandson, Jared, in 2003; two brothers, Henry & Marvin Meinders; and a sister, Irene Weinwrank.
