Obituary

BERNADINE ?BE? M. HANSEN, age, 101, of Luverne, died Friday, March 26, 2010, at the Tuff Memorial Home in Hills. She was born August 12, 1908, in Hoophole, IL, to Augustus and Philomena (Yackley) Egert. Her family moved to Ipswich, SD when she was a pre-schooler and to Luverne, MN when she was twelve. She graduated from Luverne High School and attended Normal School at Mankato State University. Be taught country school in the Kanaranzi area for 12 years. Bernadine ?eloped? with Edward ?Eddie? Hansen on July 26, 1940. They were married in the Worthington Park. The new couple lived in Kanaranzi where Eddie assumed management/ownership responsibilities at the Farmers State Bank. Be worked with her husband at the bank and served on the board as an officer. Be & Eddie sold their Kanaranzi home of thirty three years in 1983 and moved to the Camelot Condominium Apartments in Luverne. She became a resident of the Tuff Assisted Living, in Hills, the summer of 2005 at age 96, eventually residing at Tuff Memorial Home.. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Luverne; the Ladies Aid and The Eastern Star. Be was an avid sports fan. She played basketball, baseball, golf and was on the first girls bowling league. She enjoyed bicycle riding, gardening, playing the piano & harmonica and wintering in southern Texas. Be is survived by her four children, Ellen Gabrielson, Bloomington; Deanne ?Dee? (Paul) Moss, Mound; Elliot (Vicki) Hansen, Sunset, SC; and Cleone (Warren) Thompson, Baltic, SD; seven grandchildren, Kirk (Kristi) Gabrielson, Eric (Rhonda) Hansen, Molly (Tim) Davis, Andy (Anne) Huseby, Brett (Shannon) Hansen, Jessy (Eric) Jex & Aaron Thompson; eight great grandchildren, Bailey Bea Gabrielson, Dylan Gabrielson, Zachary Hansen, Allie Hansen, Sophie Davis, Ava Davis, Katelyn Hansen & Hayden Hansen; brother-n-law, Lloyd Hansen, Boulder, CO; and three sisters-in-law, Marion Soehl, Boulder, CO; Vonnie Hansen, Luverne; and Shanna Hardesty, Hughesville, MD. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Eddie, on January 8, 1991; an infant son; son-in-law, David Gabrielson; and siblings: Leonard Egert, Clarence Egert, Hubert Egert, Henrietta Leicher, Allen Egert, Ruth Henry, Catherine Anderson, and Vince Egert.
