BERNICE O. BOLTJES, age 77, of Ellsworth, died Wednesday, August 27, 2008, at the Sanford Hospital, in Sioux Falls, SD. She was born January 23, 1931, in Sioux Falls, SD, to John and Ann (Duwenhoegger) Freob. She graduated from St. Adrian Catholic High School in 1948. Bernice married Henry Boltjes on February 21, 1949, at St. Adrian Catholic Church. After their marriage, the couple lived in rural Adrian before moving to rural Magnolia in 1955. They engaged in farming until 1962 when they moved to Ellsworth. Bernice owned & operated The B & B Caf?, in Ellsworth. She also worked at the Nobles County Review, in Adrian, where she wrote a column titled ?Bernice?s Chit Chat?. She was a member of St. Adrian Catholic Church, in Adrian; and the WCCW. She enjoyed writing, cooking and growing her plants. Bernice is survived by her husband Henry Boltjes, Ellsworth, seven children, Jack (Jackie) Boltjes, Ellsworth; Ann (Gerald) Drenth, Lismore; Mary Kaye (Bill) Truesdell, Sherburn; Tom (Ranae) Boltjes, Baltic, SD; Dan (Lila) Boltjes, Ellsworth; Larry (Laura) Boltjes, Ellsworth; and Rose (Ken) Nolte, Pipestone; twenty one grandchildren; ten step grandchildren; nineteen great grandchildren; and four step great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; and an infant granddaughter, Jessica Rose Nolte, in 1988.
