BERNICE W. GIBBS, age 98, of Worthington, died, Sunday, June 5, 2011 at Chautauque Nursing Home in Charles City, IA. She was born January 29, 1913 in Sheldon, IA; to parents Alvan and Edna (Carl) Ruby. She attended Sheldon Schools through the 12th grade and also attended college in Cedar Falls, IA for short time. Bernice was united in marriage to Wilfred Gibbs on August 24, 1934 at the Methodist Church in Sheldon, IA. They lived in California until 1950 when they moved back to Worthington. She was employed in various places. She was a member of the United Methodist Church and was a RSVP volunteer and also a volunteer for CCSI. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, traveling and camping with her family. Bernice is survived by a son, Earl Ross Gibbs, Santa Monica, CA; and a daughter Ruby Peterson and her husband Burton Peterson, Charles City, IA; two grandchildren, Mark and wife Sandy; Dawn and husband Santos; four great-grandchildren, Samantha, Vanessa, Xavier and Ruby; brothers, Clayton Ruby, and Paul Ruby, and one sister, Myrna Seamands, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband on June 10, 1993, brothers, Carl, Clifford, Lawrence, and Warren; sister Margaret Sundquist; brothers-in-law, Herm Sundquist and Verle Seamands; sisters-in-law, Bernice, Mildred, Faye and Shirley Ruby; two great grandchildren, an infant baby Peterson and Shane Peterson. She was loved by many relatives and friends.
