BERNICE GRACE LORENZ, age 94, of Worthington, died Saturday, February 23, 2008, at the Sunset Hospice Cottage, in Worthington, after a three month bout with cancer. She was born November 2, 1913, in Lake Preston, SD, to William and Martha (Finnern) Paulsen. Bernice came with her family as an infant to Round Lake. She then moved to Sioux Valley where she attended school. She graduated from Sioux Valley High School as valedictorian in 1932. Bernice was a postal worker from 1935 to 1939. She married George Lorenz on March 26, 1939 and remained a farm wife & homemaker until George died in 1989. In 1992, she moved to Sunshine Apartments in Worthington. She was an active member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church, in Worthington, where she taught Sunday School, Church Circle, Release Time & hand bell choir. She was also a member of 4H, Extension Club, Project Club & county fairs. Her greatest love was being with her children and grandchildren. Bernice had an active interest in the family farm and her sewing for others. She is survived by her three sons, Ronald (Pat) Lorenz, Lakewood, CO; David (Kathy) Lorenz, Maple Grove; and Joel (Julie) Lorenz, Worthington; two daughters, Joanne (David) LaFevre, Topeka, KS; and Annette (Ronald) Ebeling, Brewster; twelve grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; brother, Robert Paulsen, Round Lake; and a sister, Marie Rust, Round Lake. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, George; an infant child; three brothers; and two sisters.
