Obituary

BERNIECE E. CLAUSEN, age 88, of Springfield, MN; formerly of the Worthington area, died Friday, November 16, 2007 at the St. John Lutheran Home in Springfield. She was born March 22, 1919 in Jackson County, MN; to her parents Joseph J. and Stephena M. (Fried) Pelzel. She grew up on a farm by Heron Lake and attended Parochial and country school. At the age of 14, she was babysitting for neighbor?s children and doing housekeeping for farm couples. Berniece was united in marriage to John (Jack) Clausen on February 20, 1939 at Dundee, MN. After marriage they lived in the Dundee, Fulda, Brewster and Worthington areas. During raising six children, she worked at Campbells Soup Company and later as a waitress and cook in area restaurants. After her husbands death she worked as a housekeeper. At the age of 60 she retired and spent five winters in Texas and did some other traveling. She was a member of St. Mary?s Catholic Church in Worthington and was also a guild member. Berniece was also involved with Senior Citizens and did volunteer work. In 1994, after heart and knee surgery she moved to Okabena Towers in Worthington. She became a resident of the St. John Lutheran Home in Springfield on August 14, 2000. She enjoyed fishing, traveling, dancing, cards, crocheting and bowling. She also enjoyed her water color painting and crafts. She is survived by her children, John (Kay) Clausen, Springfield; Larry (Delma) Clausen, Brewster; Janice (Dennis) Krumwiede, Finlayson; James (Marie) Clausen, Belview; Dean (Lois) Clausen, Springfield and Marlin (Marietta) Clausen, Brewster; 19 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren; sisters, Pauline Schaeffer, St. James; Marcella Carlson, Worthington and Loretta Schmitz, St. James; brother Raymond (Vernice) Pelzel, Janesville. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Jack on August 10, 1971, three brothers, three sisters and one great grandchild.
