BERTHA (KOELEWYN) CORBIN, age 93, of Edgerton, formerly of Leota, was born August 25, 1921, at home in Lismore Township, to Frank and Gertie (Buyert) Koelewyn.
She was raised on the farm & attended school in Lismore Township.
Bertha was united in marriage to Gilbert Corbin in the Leota Christian Reformed Church on May 3, 1942. They were blessed with five children.
Following their marriage, the couple lived & farmed near Leota. After retirement they moved to Leota & later moved to Edgebrook Apartment in Edgerton.
After a weeklong battle with heart problems & pneumonia, Bertha peacefully passed away with family by her side on Saturday, January 10, 2015 at the age of 93 years 4 months & 16 days.
She was a lifelong member of Ebenezer Christian Reformed Church in Leota where she participated in Ladies Aid & other church activities.
Bertha enjoyed taking walks, doll collecting, doing crafts, sewing, reading and bird watching, but her main hobby was crocheting. Many of her family received afghans that she crocheted. She helped on the farm and gardened, but her main passion was her family.
She is lovingly remembered by her husband of 72 years, Gilbert Corbin, Edgerton; three children, Bonnie (Garvin) Vis, Leota; Rod (Ruth) Corbin, Edgerton; and Glenna (Jeff) Backer, Pipestone; nine grandchildren, Todd (Julie) Vis, Melanie Vis, Tricia (Steve) Salisbury, April (Grant) Post, Missy (Dave) Mulder, Tami (A.J.) Nelson, Kent (Brandi) Corbin, Rachelle Backer & Trevor Corbin; thirteen great grandchildren; three sisters, Florence Buys, Edgerton; Gertrude (Harvey) Sas, Leota; and Dena (Clares) Christians, Edgerton; and a sister-in-law, Leona Koelewyn, Edgerton.
She was preceded in death by her two sons, Garvin Corbin (1943 ~ 1959) and Curtis Corbin (1952 ~ 2008); a granddaughter, Katy Corbin; her parents; two brothers, Frank & Art Koelewyn; and a sister, Grace Van Hulzen.
Visitation will be from 5-8 pm Tuesday at the Ebenezer Christian Reformed Church in Leota Funeral will be 10:30 am Wednesday at the Ebenezer Christian Reformed Church in Leota. Burial will be in the Leota Community Cemetery.
The Leota Burial Association & the Dingmann Funeral Home, in Adrian, are in charge of arrangements.
