Obituary

BERTHA MARIAN MATTHEWS, died Saturday, February 14, 2009 at Southshore Care Center in Worthington. She was born April 19, 1920 in Jackson County to parents, Walter and Gertrude (Frey) Bayerkohler. Bertha married Ralph Charles Matthews on December 13, 1940 in Worthington. After their marriage the couple farmed for forty-five years. After they retired they moved into Homestead in Worthington. She was a member of St. Mary?s Catholic Church in Worthington, St. Mary?s guild, and the mission sewing group. She was also a member of the hospital auxiliary, the Fairview Farmers Club, three card clubs and worked at the fine arts building during the fair for fourteen years. Bertha enjoyed crocheting, knitting, canning and baking. She donated a lot of her time knitting hats for newborns at the hospital. Bertha is survived by her husband, Ralph Matthews, Worthington; three sisters, Marcella Winter, Worthington; Fern Graff, Worthington; and Mary Klooster, Lismore; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and four brothers.
