Obituary

BESSMARY ABBEY, age 77, of Luverne, died Wednesday, July 18, 2007, at the Mary Jane Brown Home in Luverne. She was born January 8, 1930, in Franklin, to Earl and Hattie (Erickson) Doty. She lived in the Deerwood-Brainerd area. When Bessmary was in her thirties, she received her GED and went to school to be a dental assistant and remained in that capacity for twenty-three years. Bessmary married Martin Torgerson in 1947, in Crosby. Martin was the state park manager at Blue Mound State Park from 1965-1967. In the late 1980?s, she moved to Luverne where she worked for the former Blue Mound Inn; and was also a home caretaker. Bessmary married Dr. Merrill Abbey in 1988. The couple had nine years together. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Luverne; the Kitchen Band; and the Luverne Senior Citizens. She enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, handiwork, collecting stamps and wildlife. Bessmary is survived by her three children, Mary Petersen, Luverne; Martin (Becky) Torgerson, Ely; and Jim Torgerson, Farmington; eight grandchildren, Heath (Kari) Petersen, Luverne; Jared (Heather) Petersen, Springfield, MO; Martin (Joni) Torgerson, McGregor; Thereasa (Dan) Honsey, Hutchinson; Eric Torgerson, Albert Lea; Trista (Jay) Puhlman, Cook; Jessica Torgerson, Chisholm; and Sara Frider, fifteen great- grandchildren; and a sister, Barbara Livingston, Minneapolis. She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands; and a brother, Kirk Doty. Blessed Be Her Memory.
