BETTY JEAN MARKUS, age 75, of Bigelow, died Monday, February 27, 2017, at the Avera-McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD. She was born October 26, 1941, in Ashton, IA, to John and Hattie (Loger) Marks. She graduated from Ashton High School.

Betty married Harold Markus on November 21, 1961 at the Presbyterian Parsonage in Ashton, IA. After their marriage, the couple farmed south of Rushmore. They retired and moved to Bigelow in 1986.

She was an active member of the Bigelow Community Church where she served in the Ladies Aid. Betty was a caregiver. She took care of her husband after he began suffering health issues. She enjoyed cooking and needlework.

Betty is survived by her two sons, Dennis (Barb) Markus, Round Lake; and Terry Markus, Sioux Falls, SD; three grandchildren, Karen (special friend, Jeremie Driscoll) Clausen, Fulda; Devin (Jessie) Markus, Windom; and Brandi (special friend, Justin Schwarz) Markus, Round Lake; and eleven great grandchildren, Brandon, Tyson, Jackson, Jordan, Tyler, Dylan, Abbi, Dalton, Draetyn, Chloe & Easton.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harold, in 1997; brother, Peter Marks; and a sister, Colleen Redlinger.

Visitation will be from 5-7 pm Thursday, at the Dingmann Funeral Home in Worthington; and also one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Friday. Funeral will be 10:30 am Friday at the Dingmann Funeral Home, in Worthington. Burial will be in the Zion Presbyterian Cemetery in George, IA.
