BETTY LOU EVANGELINE TATGE, age 76, of Beaver Creek, died Saturday, April 12, 2008, at her home. She was born April 23, 1931, in Luverne, to Lee Roy and Viola (Herrmann) McCurdy. She was raised on a farm in rural Beaver Creek. Betty Lou attended country school near Beaver Creek and graduated from Beaver Creek High School in 1949. She then attended South Dakota Beauty School. She worked at Shrives Johnson Beauty Salon. Betty Lou married Gene Tatje on September 13, 1953, in Beaver Creek. After their marriage, the couple lived in Beaver Creek where Betty Lou was a self-employed beauty operator. After retiring from being a beautician, she worked at Litton Microwave until her retirement. Along with her husband, Gene, Betty Lou also worked at the Luverne VFW. They also helped on Betty Lou?s grandmother?s farm northwest of Beaver Creek. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, in Beaver Creek; and the Luverne VFW Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed traveling, gardening, baking, shopping and spending time with her family especially her grandchildren. Betty Lou is survived by her mother, Viola McCurdy, Beaver Creek; sister, Sandra McCurdy, Beaver Creek; five children and their spouses, Michael & Donna Tatge, Madison Lake, & their children, Andrew, Cathy & Jim; Pat & Dale Bontje, Altoona, WI, & their children, Adam, Taylor, Bailee & Carter; Pam & Brian Hartman, Lindstrom, & their children, Matthew, Alicia & Sarah; Brad & Aletha Tatge, San Diego, CA, & their children, Conrad & Duncan; and Mary & Mark Connell, Maple Grove, & their child, Erin; lifelong friend, Alvin Kasemodel, Maquoketa, IA, & his children, grandchildren & great grandchildren.
