Bing Thi LoVan

Bing Thi LoVan, born on September 8, 1945, in Sonla, Vietnam, passed away surrounded by the love of her family. She lived a life defined by devotion, resilience, generosity, and deep love for those around her.

In May 1980, Bing bravely escaped with her family to a refugee camp in Thailand in search of safety and a better future. On March 30, 1981, she came to America, carrying hope, strength, and determination. Alongside her devoted husband, Lot LoVan, she built a new life from the ground up and raised six children with sacrifice, perseverance, and unwavering love. Together they created a home centered on faith, hard work, and family.

To provide for her family in America, Bing worked at Alf's Jean Manufacturing in Sheldon and later at JBS in Worthington. She worked tirelessly, balancing long hours with caring for her children and maintaining a loving home.

Bing was a loving mother to Vichith LoVan, Phonesanith LoVan, Teen LoVan, Vilay (LoVan) Riesberg, Loun (LoVan) Ruggeberg, and Lavanh (LoVan) Lo. Her family was the center of her world, and she poured her heart into raising and caring for them.

She is also survived by her cherished grandchildren: Brice, Bradley, Bing, Jordan, Danny, Brandon, Tristin, Tanner, Carter, Kiya, Tierra, Jo, Alahna, and Tayla; and her beloved great-grandchildren: Addison, Jaxson, Kierson, and Oliver Lot. Nothing brought her greater joy than spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whom she loved beyond measure.

Bing is survived by her brothers Ike Luong and Oune Luong; and her sisters Phiou Cam, Neuay Luong, and Amphay Lo. She was preceded in death by her brother, Bang Luong, and her beloved parents, Tho Luong and Doy (Thi) Luong.

For six years, Bing courageously endured thyroid cancer and fought with all her strength. Throughout her illness, she continued to think of others before herself, showing the same resilience and selflessness that defined her entire life.

A woman of many talents and passions, Bing found joy in crocheting, knitting, cross-stitching, gardening, fishing, and foraging for asparagus and mushrooms. She loved being outdoors, gathering from the land, and sharing her harvest and meals with those she loved. She also enjoyed cooking and creating artwork for others. She lovingly made crocheted and knitted pieces and handmade art to give to family and friends — gifts that will now serve as treasured reminders of her warmth and care. Whether she was tending her garden, casting a fishing line, foraging in the fields, or preparing a meal, she found happiness in the simple moments shared with family. Her hands were rarely still, always creating something beautiful or nourishing her loved ones. Her love language was food — she showed care not just through words, but through thoughtful meals, quiet sacrifices, and always putting others before herself.

Bing spoke Vietnamese, Laotian, Tai Dam, French, and English, reflecting her rich cultural heritage and her determination to adapt and thrive in a new country. She carried her traditions proudly while embracing new opportunities, passing both strength and culture down through her family.

She also deeply loved her church family. Her faith was an important part of her life, and she treasured the fellowship, community, and friendships she found within her church. She found comfort and strength in her faith and was grateful for the support and love of her church community.

She will be remembered for her gentle strength, perseverance, selflessness, warm heart, steadfast faith, and unwavering dedication to her family. Her legacy lives on in the many lives she touched, the traditions she preserved, and the love she so freely gave.

Visitation will be Thursday, March 5, 2026, from 1-3pm at St.Matthew Lutheran Church, in Worthington. Funeral service will be 3pm Thursday, March 5, at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Worthington, officiated by Rev. David Hahn.

Private family burial will be at a later date. Dingmann Funeral Home, in Worthington, is in charge of arrangements.
