Obituary

BRUCE GJERDE, age 65, of Wilmont, died Friday, August 3, 2018, at the Slayton Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center. He was born May 7, 1953, in Minneapolis, to Peter and Eloise (Tatum) Gjerde. He graduated from Washburn High School in Minneapolis.

Bruce married Laura Holcomb on September 17, 1988, in Minneapolis. The couple lived in Minneapolis where Bruce worked at Pillsbury which later became General Mills. In 2007, they moved to Wilmont. Bruce worked at Hy-Vee in Worthington. Due to health reasons, Bruce retired in 2013.

He was a member of the Indian Lake Baptist Church, in rural Worthington, where he sang in the choir. He enjoyed playing backgammon, camping, traveling up to the north shore, music and old movies.

Bruce is survived by his wife, Laura Gjerde, Wilmont; father, Peter Gjerde, Eden Prairie; brother, Tim (Nancy) Gjerde, Bloomington; three sisters, Debbie Barile, Minneapolis; Liz Norton, St. Louis Park; and Melissa Gjerde, Minneapolis; mother-in-law, Ann Holcomb, Worthington; many nieces & nephews; and his dog, Shorty.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Eloise; and his father-in-law, John Holcomb.

A memorial service will be Wednesday at 2 pm at the Indian Lake Baptist Church, in rural Worthington, officiated by Pastor Jonathan Larson. A time of fellowship will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday. Burial of cremains will be in the Indian Lake Baptist Cemetery.
