Obituary

BRUCE CONRAD McCORKELL, age 85 of Luverne, died Sunday, January 13, 2008, at the Mary Jane Brown Home in Luverne. He was born November 26, 1922, to parents D. Donald and Olive (Guthrie) McCorkell in Grand Rapids, MN. Bruce grew up on his parent?s homestead northeast of Effie, MN. He graduated from high school in Bigfork, MN. After his schooling, Bruce was inducted into the Army and served during World War II on the hospital ship, USS Mercy in the Pacific Theater. After he was honorably discharged, he attended school for two years under the G.I. bill. In 1936 Bruce made his choice to serve God faithfully and quietly throughout his life. On December 3, 1943, Bruce was united in marriage to Evelyn Hanson. During their marriage, he worked for Reserve Mining Company in Silver Bay, MN for 31 years and retired as a general foreman in plant maintenance. After Evelyn?s death, Bruce married Rosella Smeins in September of 1992. In June of 1993 the couple moved to Luverne. Bruce enjoyed the outdoors, he loved shore casting on Lake Superior, walking in the woods, cutting down trees, chopping wood, snowmobiling and grooming trails. He also was an excellent carpenter and plumber. Bruce especially enjoyed spending time with his family. He is survived by his wife, Rosella McCorkell, Luverne, two sons, Harlan (Linda) McCorkell, Mankato, MN; and Larry (Virginia)McCorkell, Blaine, MN; one daughter, Lois (Tim) Holman, Liberty Lake, WA; four grandsons, three granddaughters, seven great-grandchildren, one brother, Raymond McCorkell, Silver Bay, MN; one sister, Edna (Edwin) LaFrenier, Babbitt, MN; three step-children, Mary (Chris) Genna, Kent, WA; Jack (Leanne) Smeins, Holland, MN; Betty (Dick) Moss, Sioux Falls, SD; five step-grandchildren and one step great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents, D. Donald and Olive McCorkell, wife, Evelyn and one brother, David McCorkell.
