CARL E. SMID, age 68, of Worthington, MN; died Sunday, September 11, 2016 at Sunset Hospice Cottage in Worthington, after fighting prostate cancer for over four years. He was born October 22, 1947 in Boyden, IA; to parents Sienus  J. and  Margaret Jean (Miller) Smid. Carl graduated from Boyden-Hull High School in 1966.

Carl was united in marriage to Janet Kay Jacobs on June 4, 1988 at Emmanuel Presbyterian Church in rural Rushmore, MN; and had attended that church for 28 years. The couple made their home in Worthington.

Carl had been employed at Sioux Steel, Hull Creamery, Highland Manufacturing, Worthington Ready-Mix and retired after 29 years at the Nobles County Highway Department in 2009. He enjoyed spending time with his family, remodeling projects and "fixing things" especially his Big-Mo mowers. He was a fan of the Twins, Vikings and Lynx.

He is survived by his wife, Janet Smid, Worthington; son Jeremey Lee (Special friend, Marcie Beyer) Alpha; granddaughter, Haley Jo, Fairmont; three brothers, John (Arlys) Smid, Colorado Springs, CO; Doug (Judy) Smid, Pella, IA; Harlan (Laura) Smid, Montrose, CO; one sister, Ruth (Mark) Schoon, Wayzata, MN; mother-in-law, Tillie Jacobs, Rushmore, MN; brother-in-law, Randy (Joyce) Jacobs, Rushmore, MN; ten nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
