CAROLYN GERTRUDE (SPARTZ) HENNING, age 92, of Adrian, died Saturday March 13, 2021 at the Adrian Country Living Cottages. She was born July 13, 1928, in Iona, to Francis and Anna (Ringenbach) Spartz. Carolyn was baptized at St. Columba Catholic Church in Iona. She attended country school in Dist. #104, rural Murray County and graduated from St. Columba Catholic High School. After high school, Carolyn worked at the Slayton Drug Store and Buckles Five & Dime. In 1948, she moved to Rochester where she worked as a Nurses Aid at St. Mary Hospital.
Carolyn married Norbert Henning on November 21, 1949 at St. Columba Catholic Church. The couple moved to Adrian where Carolyn worked at Nick's and Egan's Market. She later was a bookkeeper for her husband, Norb at Henning Construction. She also volunteered at the Adrian Library.
She was a member of St. Adrian Catholic Church where she taught CCD; and was a member of the WCCW, the Christian Mothers, and the Catholic Daughters. She was also a member of the Adrian Senior Citizens, Happy Helper at the Arnold Memorial Nursing Home for over twenty years and was a Den Mother.
Carolyn is survived by her seven children, Jackie Ahern, Chattanooga, TN; Gary (Eileen) Henning, Adrian; Scot (Kathy) Henning, Adrian; Eugene (Jean) Henning, Northome; Peggy (Monte) Knips, Houston, TX; Kieth (Joy) Henning, Gunnison, CO; and Jerry (Rose) Henning, Adrian; grandchildren, Sarah (Chris) Lively, Tom (Christie) Ahern, Tim (Qingyaun) Ahern, Erika (Nick) Loonan, Brent (Katie) Henning, Abbey (friend, Oliver) Henning, Ryan (Lindsay) Henning, Jenna (James) Spagnuolo, Andrea (Milos') Mitrovic, Nick (Betsy) Henning, Trisha Hammond, Trina (Kainan) Bodenlos, Chad (Christina) Knips, Bridget (Todd) Stroud, Justin (Kharman) Henning, Travis (Juniper) Henning, Megan (friend, Mark) Henning, Kyle (Courtney) Henning, Kody (Carly) Henning; and twenty five great-grandchildren, Kaitlin, Sadie, Corey, Sean, Tyler, Knox, Crew, Koko, Emmerson, Brooks, Sophie, Haley, Adriana, Nora, Nina, Grayson, Chase, Max, Halston, Lukas, Aurora, Eliza, Jacob, Lincoln and Summit.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Norb on March 15, 2002; three infant sons; a daughter-in-law, Monica Henning; a grandson, Corey Henning; three brothers, Alfred, Frank and Bob Spartz; and two sisters, Irene Einck and Lorraine Haines.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 11 am to 1 pm at St. Adrian Catholic Church in Adrian. Funeral Mass will be 1 pm Tuesday at St. Adrian Catholic Church, officiated by Monsignor Richard Colletti. Burial will be in the St. Adrian Catholic Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Adrian Senior Dining or St. Adrian Catholic Church.
