CARRIE RUITER, age 98, of Leota, went to be with her Heavenly Father on Sunday, May 15, 2011 at the Edgebrook Care Center in Edgerton, MN. She was born to John and Henrietta (Selles) Groen on March 5, 1913 in Leota, MN. She grew up on family farms in the Leota area. She was united in marriage to Cornie Ruiter on January 29, 1935 in Leota. They were the parents of six children. Following their marriage, Cornie and Carrie farmed north of Leota for one year before moving to a farm near Valley Springs, SD, and Beaver Creek. In 1944, they moved back to a farm east of Leota for one year. They then moved into Leota and retired from farming in 1973. Carrie was a housewife, seamstress, and bookkeeper for their trucking business. In January of 1991, Cornie left his earthly home. Carrie continued to live in their home in Leota until she became a resident of the Edgebrook Care Center in Edgerton on May 7, 2003. She was a member of the Bethel Reformed Church in Leota. Some of Carrie?s ?hobbies? included gardening, sewing, quilt making, helping her granddaughter on the farm peeling apples for applesauce and pies, and eating pizza with her family. Her favorite hymn was ?Wonderful Grace of Jesus?. On the inside of the front cover is another of her favorite hymns, ?I?ve Got a Mansion? which is shown in her own handwriting. She will be missed by her sons, Dick (Arla) of Leota and Harvey of Sauk Rapids, MN, her grandkids, Cheryl (Mark) Anderson of Sioux Falls; Dawn (Keith) Esselink of Leota, Mark Peitso of Sauk Rapids; great-grandkids Andrew, Matthew, Lyndsay, and Kaylee Anderson; Gregory (Caitlin) Arp; Kelly (Brandon) Kounkel; Caleb and Sydney Esselink; and great-great-grandsons Keaton and Tucker Arp, and Kainen Kounkel; sister Willemena Doppenberg, and sister-in-law Mary Groen. Welcoming her to her Heavenly home were her husband, Cornie; her children, Wilhemina, Johnny, Calvin, and Brent; her granddaughters ,Kim and Susan; a great-great-grandson, Wilson Arp; her parents; five brothers and two sisters.
