CATHERINE ANNE LEWIS, age 75, of Ellsworth, died Tuesday, May 5, 2026, at the VA Medical Center in Sioux Falls, SD. She was born September 12, 1950, in Adrian, to Lowell and Hazel (Bruns) Colwell. Cathy attended St. Mary Catholic School, in Ellsworth, before graduating from Ellsworth High School in 1968. She then served her country in the United States Navy for over three years.
Cathy married Larry Lewis on August 12, 1972, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Ellsworth. The couple lived in Rushmore before moving to the farm north of Ellsworth in 1978. They later moved into Ellsworth. Cathy worked at the Parkview Manor Nursing Home, in Ellsworth, as a CNA. Her and Larry owned and operated the Ellsworth Food Center for over twenty two years.
She was an active member of St. Mary Catholic Church, serving on the Church Board, CCW Office, Catechist, Lector and Choir. She and Larry were honored by the Winona Diocese with the Bishops Medal of Honor in 2015. Cathy was also a member of the Ellsworth American Legion. She enjoyed golf cart rides, card games and attending her kid’s sports and school activities.
Cathy is survived by her husband, Larry Lewis, Ellsworth; five children, Mike (Kimberly) Lewis, Ellsworth; Nancy Lewis, Luverne; Dale Lewis, Rock Rapids, IA; Connie (Chad) Jansma, Rock Rapids, IA; and Rosemary (Matthew) Mallory, Little Canada, MN; twelve grandchildren, Madison Lewis, Bailey Lewis, Peyton Lewis, Aurora Lewis, Farrah (Alex) Presthus, Jackson Lewis, Joanna Lewis, Mason Lewis, Brooklyn Jansma, Eliah Jansma, Sara Bjerke and River Mallory; great-grandchild, Summer Stoecker; two brothers, Reid (Karla) Colwell, Sioux Falls, SD; and Joe (Lonette) Colwell, Rushmore; and a sister, Melissa Colwell, Bloomington.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Visitation will be from 4-7 pm Friday, May 8 at St. Adrian Catholic Church in Adrian; and also one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Funeral Mass will be 1 pm Saturday at St. Adrian Catholic Church, officiated by Monsignor Richard Colletti. Burial with full military honors provided by the Ellsworth American Legion will be in the St. Mary Cemetery in Ellsworth.
Dingmann Funeral Home, in Adrian, is in charge of arrangements.
